A fun weekend!

What a great weekend! The weather cleared up and the sun was shining!

On Friday night we hung out with lots of friends... it's always great to catch up and laugh. We did happy hour at Major's and then went downtown to see Hookers & Blow play at Glueks.

Saturday we hung out with Troy's brother, his wife and kids. We went over to their place for dinner and a bonfire and had so much fun with the kids. Here are a few pics of Caden, he'll be one later this fall.

Last weekend Kaitlyn & Mila posed for a few pics on the window seat.

Kiya's Birthday Party

A few weekends back we celebrated Kiya's birthday. There was a fun party in our friends' backyard, a bonfire and live DJs. :) Three of the guys all own DJ equipment and love to spin, so we had some great throwback music throughout the night. Happy Bday Kiya!

Happy Birthday MILA

It was Dozer's 2nd birthday this past Saturday. Kaitlyn and I made her a doggie cake, along with small cakes for some of her doggie friends. :) A few of the ingredients included were peanut butter, shredded carrots, honey, vanilla and an egg with pureed cottage cheese for the frosting.

We have a video of her with the cake, but I can't find the cord to transfer it on the blog. As soon as I find it... I'll post it.

road trip: take FIVE

After our lovely visit through North Carolina, we drove the car onto a ferry and made our way to a small island called Okracoke. The ferry took us, along with many other cars and people, across part of the ocean to the island about 1/2 hour away. Here's a pic on the ferry, Amy went up a level and took a picture down.

Once we arrived to Ocracoke, we found out that the ferry to South Carolina (a 2 1/2 hour ride) fills up VERY quickly and usually requires reservations. We hadn't made reservations, but got in line to see if we'd be able to make the ride. The ferry only makes two trips a day and we wanted to make sure we kept making ground on the trip. While waiting for the ferry we had some time to kill. We walked down to a boat launch into the ocean and I wanted to stick my feet in the water to see how warm it was. There was a sign that read "Caution: SLIPPERY" and Amy told me to be careful. Needless to say, I slipped and fell in the ocean, fully clothed and got bruised up. Not only was I soaking wet, but my clutch also went in the water with me... along with my camera!!! I freaked out and was really bummed about my camera, but it was working just fine after a few hours. A few good laughs were had looking back, but that really sucked when it happened.

We made the cut on the ferry and were off to South Carolina! We drove for quite some time in SC and looked for a campsite late in the evening. As we were headed to one site (but couldn't really find it) we saw a gas station with bars over the windows and decided it was in our best interest to stay in a hotel. We found a place and made our way to dinner. The next morning we went to Myrtle Beach. The weather was nice, but partly cloudy and a bit overcast. Here are a few shots from MB.

From there we started to head towards Tennessee... we were on our way to the Smokey Mountains the next day.

road trip: take 4

We arrived to our camp site in Cape Hatteras (the Outer Banks of North Carolina) just before dark. We set up camp and soon realized that we didn't have the correct rain fly for the tent. You can see in the picture below, we made do with a green tarp and covered the tent. Not more than 20 minutes after we set up the tent, a HUGE rain storm came through! The tarp didn't work all that great and we had some water in the tent, but for some reason the air mattress and sleeping bags were nice and dry. It was almost 9:30pm and we had yet to eat dinner so we were off to find some fun dining.

A few miles down the road was Dirty Dicks Crab House... looked fun and entertaining. Amy found her crab legs and was in heaven. :)

The next morning we walked to the OCEAN at the edge of the camp grounds. It was breath taking, serene and beautiful! Here are a few pics:

This part of the trip was my absolute favorite. The cape was so peaceful, the people were all so friendly and it was just beautiful. I will definately be back to vacation here. You can rent a beach house right on the ocean... my kind of vacation!
